Synopsis and credits

The world around us is a list. Making lists is a hobby and obsession that we all share. We make lists so as not to forget, to reduce our anxiety, to remember, to give dry and poetic accounts of things, to create order, to come up with new perspectives, to understand what is around us, to speak about ourselves…
So, a list to talk about lists. And if there is a lack of or too many words, the magic formula is et cetera, et cetera, et cetera, repeated three times or abbreviated to etc., it’s only a matter of taste…
Vertigine della Lista came about from the desire to try and interpret the confusing world around us, to overturn the present that eludes us, from the ambition to come up with new ways of looking at the world, from the physical pleasure and joy of dance, from our bodies caught up in a joyous and carefree poetic world, that of Giorgio Rossi.

Vertigine della lista […] Vertigine della lista […] was inspired by the essay of the same name by Umberto Eco, published in Italy by Bompiani in 2009, a dense piece of prose, with images, literary fragments, and philosophical considerations about the concept of list, which serves to tidy up the world, to unite things that are identical or different, so that they can still be seen from a rather different perspective. It’s about the patience of discovery as opposed to the frenzy of conquest.
At a certain point, for example, they evoke certain works, composing themselves into tableaux vivants, to express the idea that art is the craftsmanship of the possible: art is omnipresent and all around us, if we want to see, recognise and talk about it, as the offstage voice, in this case of Francesco Picceo. Otherwise, they are simply our bodies, forms without any direction.
Vertigine della lista thus mixes together literature, philosophy, daily routine, poetic gestures and dance movements. It is a catalogue of loving and being loved, of memories, of what remains and what goes away, in an untidy existence without easy solutions, in which every morning we start anew, hoping to be reborn.

Giorgio Rossi […] together with the female collective Qui e ora (which likes to collaborate with other theatrical companies and works on its own dramaturgy) presented Vertigine della lista, inspired by the essay of the same name by Umberto Eco. It starts with one of the performers turning to the public with erudite references to classic works (the philosophers Agamben and Severino), which she then confesses to have taken from Wikipedia, before going on to talk about the recurring theme of lists[…]Talent, self-irony, and intelligence are the ingredients of this excellent example of dance theatre, boosted by the team effort of Francesca Albanese, Silvia Baldini, Laura Valli of Qui e ora and De Simone of Sosta Palmizi.

“Back to the subject of work in progress, it is worth mentioning, “Vertigine della Lista”, a delightful play produced by Qui e ora residenza teatrale (Francesca Albanese, Silvia Baldini, and Laura Valli) and the young dancer Lorenzo De Simone. This dance, made of encounters and references to daily life, has the distinguishing features of Sosta Palmizi, in particular Giorgio Rossi, and this is very evident. Precise choreographic figures […]. A show marked by careful attention, movement precision, and, above all, a truly enjoyable sense of togetherness, where this young and highly talented dancer is perfectly at home.
De Simone brings speed and a sense of rhythm, with fluid movements and vibrant energy. The entire cast brims with energy, a trait that stands out in this performance sure to reach new heights.”

Maria Dolores Pesce – dramma.it /
“The act of cataloguing through repetition was one of the hallmarks of the poetic, lyrical, yet partly narrative style, of Alberto Arbasino. Here, it is reproposed in an original way, with a mixed performance of ironic dramaturgy, which draws on clichés, transforming them into something new, a physical performance and authentic choral dance.”
