My Place. Body and home

I have an inner self that I knew nothing about. Now everything goes into it. I don’t know what happens thereR.M. Rilke – The notebooks of Malte Laurids Brigge
Synopsis and credits
On stage three naked bodies – or rather in underwear – exposed on purpose: alive and not censored bodily masses, true, honest and way different from those we are used to seeing in newspapers, on the Internet, on TV. Three women who are no longer young but not yet old. Definitely not perfect. Yet they are beautiful, because they are authentic. In a surreal show, they offer themselves to the public as they are, bodies without home or space, evicted from their own self. Off to follow, devour and multiply their own shadows. With a light-hearted step and an ironic and tragicomic gaze on femininity.
The body – home is the imaginary at the core of the performance. From that place the actresses depart to disclose instants of frailness and beauty, to give back cross-sections of intimacy, to unveil a secret place – a physical place or an inner space, nevertheless a space of the imagination. Only few words, visual representations, bodies in movement. A physical story that searches the places of intimacy.
MY PLACE offers the opportunity to compare two different but like-minded poetics. Two looks on womanhood gather here. The quest for a movement that emerges from non-conventional bodies and the experimentation on self-produced dramaturgy, an ironic gaze and the research on contemporary society. The playwrights and actresses of “Qui e Ora” embody Silvia Gribaudi’s visions giving back to the choreographer and performer a contemporary vision to contend with.

What they say about us #
DA KRAPP’S LAST POST – LA SOSTENIBILE LEGGEREZZA DELL’ESSERE di Vincenzo Sardelli “My place – il corpo e la casa, by Qui e Ora residenza teatrale is a way to do away with traditional canons of beauty, to critique the standardising society and represent a relaxed world… A witty and countercultural show that brings into dialogue the body, age and the roles of women in contemporary society… Not many words are needed. That’s Silvia Gribaudi’s style. She reduces prose into pieces, she breaks the boundaries of dance and collects the shards of bourgeois culture. She burns all together scene costumes to enlighten our identities, fragmented by consumerism and empty appearances, in order to rebuild them with deep love”
DA Q CODE MAG di Gabriella Ballarini “There are bodies that are homes, that are roads, that are dances, and there’s a place, or rather, My Place. Three women in underwear. Body and Home. The contents and the container. Me, you, and the space around us. Three shelter-bodies that shine with normality, bodies that bear the burden of the years, lightened by the beauty of gestures, hands, feet, and shoes. The body unmasked. My Place urges us to slow down. A must see.”
GIGI GHERZI – TEATRO DEGLI INCONTRI “My place” by Qui e Ora Residenza Teatrale, seen yesterday at Danae Festival in Milan, is a beautiful and visionary play. On stage present-day bodies without home or space, self-sufficient bodies forced to show themselves, to perform, to struggle. The features of dance are lovingly cut into pieces in order to give us back our fragmented homeless bodies.
DA PERSI IN SALA – QUANDO LE PROIEZIONI DELL’ANIMA DIVENGONO STANZE E SOFFITTI di Luisa Gasbarri “The three actresses Francesca Albanese, Silvia Baldini and Laura Valli, sensitively directed by Silvia Gribaudi, managed to dismantle the burden of individualism usually set by the scene and by the Western world. Through round, motherly, invasive or highly soft movements, they aim at presenting a non-conventional female body in its authenticity beyond dominating stereotypes. They mould a non-censored human being, free of any reserve, who keeps getting lost and giving herself in a spasmodic crescendo.”
DAL BLOG DI ATTRAVERSAMENTI MULTIPLI “Informal, apparently non refined, purposely rough, this work hides an aesthetic, a shape… Home. The voices, stories, cross-sections of life, partial, a near visual flash, gather in a literally physical landscape…”
